"Enrichment for life"
All children have access to the following educational accounts where they are able to engage with a wide range of learning task. Children have these stuck in their reading records, if you do not have a log in let me know and I will message it to you via class dojo.
Bugclub - children have books allocated to them which are appropriate for their current reading level. On each page there is a bug icon, if the children click on this it will pose them a text related question which they need to answer. These questions are equally important as they assess your child's understanding of what has been read. I can then monitor your child's engagement and progress and adjust books as needed.
Times Table Rockstars - a maths game available through the website and as an app, that focusses on the children's timetables. For year 1 these are the 2s, 5s and 10s. The children get an avatar and collect coins as they try to become Rock Heroes.
Charanga - a music scheme the school uses to support the delivery of music. The children are able to access the work assigned to them in their workspace, including how to play the musical instruments linked to the learning of that lesson, currently glockenspiels.
Purple Mash - a website that uses ICT to cover a range of curriculum subjects from maths and English to foundation subjects like history and geography. The children can click on the 2DOS tab at the top of the page and it will take them to assigned work.
I look forward to seeing the children's regular engagement with these services and learning opportunities.
pdsa visit.
Today the children have been learning about the needs of domestic animals and our responsibility as pet owners. After an assembly the children got to take part in a workshop focussed around welfare and wellbeing and were shocked to find out that cats like to sleep for most of the day and that carrots were not healthy for rabbits.
It's cooking time!
The children have had an exciting time exploring the new kitchen this week to make their fairy cakes. They listened with interest about how they were going to follow the instructions around the table to complete the process of collecting the ingredients and putting them in the cake cases ready for the oven. They waited with anticipation for the opportunity to decorate them when they were cool.
This week in Music, the children have been exploring their singing voices to control both soft and loud sounds so that they can guide each other to a hidden object by getting louder if they are close or softer the further away they move. 11/09/19
